Assessment

Paramount to Identifying Issues

For new clients, a full assessment is carried out during the initial 60 minute sports massage therapy treatment. This is to assess your posture and any musculoskeletal imbalances that maybe identified; no one is perfectly symmetrical!

Range of Motion (ROM) is tested to identify restrictions that maybe causing the issues followed by specialist injury tests which can identify a range of conditions from joint issues to specific muscle problems.

With all clients, a medical history is obtained to ensure that there are no contraindications preventing a sports massage treatment and that nothing has changed since your last treatment.

If you think you may need a Doctor’s advice to have a sports massage, please get the “OK” in writing before your treatment.

Main Treatment

Following an assessment, a treatment plan will be discussed and any techniques that maybe beneficial to the issue.

Techniques such Soft Tissue Release, trigger point release, RockTape® RockPods®, RockBlades®, Kinesiology Taping, Medical Acupuncture or myofascial release maybe assessed as being appropriate to achieve the aims of the treatment.

After your sports massage therapy treatment, Range of Movement will be re-assessed. A personalised stretch and strengthening programme will be emailed to maximise the effect of the sports massage treatment.

It’s not expected that you will remember everything discussed in your treatment. After leaving the V-Active Sports Therapy treatment room, an email is sent with everything that you need to know.

If you have a question after your treatment, answers to the most asked questions can be found on the FAQ page.

If kinesiology tape has been applied during your sports massage therapy treatment, visit the page for a reminder of the do’s and don’ts!

" Pain Is Weakness Leaving the Body "

Chesty Puller (1898-1971) US Marine

In respect of Chesty Puller this maybe a method to dig deep and get through Marine training. However, does this mean you’ve got to grit your teeth to get through a sports massage? Definitely not!

If the technique is that painful, all it will end up doing is causing you to brace all the muscles leaving you tense at the end of your treatment. Some sports massage therapy techniques maybe slightly uncomfortable and the sensations that you should feel have been explained with each one, check out the soft tissues techniques.

Throughout a treatment, pressure will always be checked, if there is discomfort I will ask if the pressure needs easing off. If you experience no sensation at all then a different technique will be used. Severe discomfort and pain is not the aim of the treatment! Feedback is really important and I rely on you to be honest with the depth of treatment pressure, it is ok to say the pressure isn’t enough too!
